Senior Director, Global Head of Medical Affairs Digital Innovation

Reporting to the Vice President of Global Medical Strategy and Operations, this individual will be responsible for developing and leading a global, cross-functional, collaborative team to accelerate patient access to our medicines by transforming our Medical Affairs digital capabilities focused on impacting patient outcomes while delivering superior customer experiences. This individual will focus on the development and implementation of novel and emerging technologies, descriptive and predictive analytics, AIML applications, and digital health solutions, in collaboration with our commercial, development, compliance and information technology colleagues to improve Medical Affairs provider and patient engagement and patient outcomes via personalized content and engagement, integrated digital solutions, and organizational innovation and agility. This individual will work across all therapeutic areas to build organizational enthusiasm for, and ensure implementation of new solutions that provide meaningful, patient-centric value in a highly matrixed organization.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Lead the development of a framework and operating model for the Global Medical Affairs Digital Innovation together with Business Conduct, Development, Regulatory Affairs, Legal and Commercial
  • Develop and implement a long-term Medical Affairs digital engagement strategy focused on improving patient outcomes while delivering optimal customer experiences
  • Create the standards and processes for digital medical affairs provider and patient engagement to improve patient outcomes
  • Lead global digital innovative projects and partnerships within a therapeutic area and above brands to advance digital health objectives
  • Function as a strategic thought partner internally as well as externally on matters of critical importance to Medical Affairs digital transformation efforts
  • Implement descriptive and predictive digital analytics capabilities, processes, technology and tools to monitor, measure and predict performance creating access to Gilead's medicines
  • Develop creative and effective solutions to address inter- and intra-project priority conflicts, resource constraints and other problems which may impact project goals and deliverables across multiple programs
  • Collaborate with relevant departments within Medical Affairs, across Development and Commercial as well as IT entities to establish and maintain communication channels, work practices, and processes
  • Direct and lead continuous improvement of processes and supporting tools to determine best practices and appropriate resource needs, including budget, tools, and personnel

Knowledge, Experience and Skills:
  • College degree with significant business experience/scientific experience with digital innovation tools, technology and patient outcomes
  • Strategic acumen/experience in understanding external shifts in patient experience from the lens of delivering patient-centered care experiences across systems of care
  • Appreciation of opportunity for digital innovation as embraced/funded by large risk holding entities and data holders
  • 5-7 years global/in-market Pharma/Biopharma experience preferable
  • Oncology and/or Virology experience preferable
  • Practical experience and technical expertise with mobile medical applications, digital application interoperability, digital therapeutics, machine learning, artificial intelligence, novel digital health technology, digital health product development, big data and advanced analytics, and cloud storage
  • Experience delivering patient-centric engagement strategies for patient and physician (HCP) awareness, demand generation, and retention programs utilizing digital, social, traditional, mobile and advocacy partnership tools
  • Experience shaping end to end digital customer experience to advance organizational agility and efficiency
  • Project management expertise; with experience applying LEAN Methodology to reduce complexity
  • Experience in an alliance or strategic partnership
  • Experience in translating business needs into a coordinated plan
  • Results-orientation with ability to develop creative and simple solutions to complex problems
  • Strong ability to collaborate across multiple internal and external partners
  • Highly organized with a strong attention to detail, clarity, accuracy and conciseness
