Position Description:
The National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI), a major research component of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), is seeking exceptional candidates for a Staff Scientist position in the Intramural Research Program (IRP), Medical Genetics Branch (MGB), Molecular Neurogenetics Section (MNS). MGS seeks to identify and understand the function of genes involved in a range of human diseases, both rare and common, with the ultimate goal of identifying new therapeutic opportunities.
The Staff Scientist's primary responsibilities will be to provide skilled expertise in a wide variety of projects involving making, utilizing and treating animal models of human disease. Specifically the Staff Scientist will evaluate models of Gaucher disease and GBA1- associated Parkinson disease. This will include designing constructs, monitoring animal matings, mouse phenotyping including behavioral phenotyping, histological and biochemical assessments and implementing therapeutic interventions including gene therapy. The Staff Scientist will design and optimize assays, introduce RNAscope evaluations, and perform steriotatic injections into mouse brain. The Staff Scientist will be responsible for acquisition and adaptation, or development and documentation, of data related to these different mouse models. The Staff Scientist will be responsible for initiation and management of collaborations with other research groups, both inside and outside of NIH, and will also be responsible for training and mentoring of other lab members, including postbacs, graduate students, and postdocs.
Qualifications:
Candidates must have a Ph.D. in a biological field, and must have a minimum of eight years post doctoral experience in cellular or molecular biology.
