The University of Salford Finance Division is responsible for the overall financial management of the institution and its subsidiaries. The division is made up of a team of 70 employees and provides a full range of financial services to the University, including: payroll, financial systems, management and financial accounting services and a travel office. We operate a devolved system of planning and budgeting and the Finance team works closely with Academic Units and Professional Services to maximise opportunities and ensure financial sustainability.

Assistant Purchasing Officer

Reporting to the Senior Purchasing Officer the post holder will assist in the effective operation of the Procurement function of the University, providing support and input into the University Finance and Purchasing system. The post holder will, in particular, carry out tenders, challenge processes, be proactive in engagement with the Schools and Directorates and provide sound Procurement advice.

Responsibilities
  • Provide members of University staff with information and general advice on the Purchasing policy, Purchasing procedures and insurance issues.
  • To assist in the procurement of goods and services for all areas of the University in line with the Purchasing Policy and Purchasing Procedure, including obtaining quotations and providing cost comparisons.
  • To support the Head of Procurement and Buyer/s in the tender process for goods and services and their contractual negotiations with external organisations, including the use of the Procurement tendering portal.
  • Liaison with external suppliers to place University business in accordance with internal requests which comply with financial regulations.
