We are looking for a dynamic and ambitious individual to work as a Design and Development Engineer on a Knowledge Exchange project between EnviroVent Ltd and the University of Salford, to develop a new Novel Ventilation System.

Based in Harrogate, North Yorkshire (HG2) EnviroVent Ltd is a manufacturer and installer of domestic ventilation products with manufacturing heritage spanning back to 1998. The company is involved across a broad range of markets including social housing, private developers and domestic homeowners covering both refurbishment programmes and newbuild projects. It holds a dominant market position in the social housing marketplace, where it has been operating the longest.

The move towards the Government's Zero Carbon Homes programme and the Future Homes Standard will pave the way for new technologies in the delivery of renewable or hybrid energy sources. It is hoped that this knowledge transfer project will make a significant impact to the company's growth and vision if a renewable source of power can be easily installed onto an existing ventilation system.

This Knowledge Exchange Project will provide the catalyst to establish a new product skill set around externally powered products. While this may initially focus on lower powered items, this will provide EnviroVent with an opportunity to build this into future products ensuring they are low powered and environmentally sustainable.

The post holder should have a good understanding of control systems and the design and powering of electrical equipment, which may include some control programming experience. They should have some team working experience and, preferably have worked in a multi-disciplinary team as part of their studies or professionally.

The post holder will have the following benefits:
  • Working on a joint research and commercial project
  • Practical formal training
  • £1500 personal development budget
  • Free (fees waived) postgraduate qualification registration

The successful candidate will undertake an 18-month collaborative project between EnviroVent and the University of Salford (Energy House laboratories team). Based in Harrogate, North Yorkshire (HG1) you will be supported by the staff from the company and the academic team from the University of Salford whilst undertaking a research project. The post holder will also gain a deeper understanding of commercial project management, finance, business relations and marketing strategies. Some professional or commercial experience is preferred, although not essential, when applying for this role.

Skills required: Candidates should possess a degree with a minimum of a 2.1 (or working towards) in degree in product design, electrical engineering, electronics or cognate area.

A high level of numeracy is required as is experience of technical reporting. A master's degree although desirable is not an essential requirement when applying for this post as the opportunity to study for a further qualification is available. The successful candidate should possess excellent interpersonal skills, be self-motivated and have the ability to work independently and to tight deadlines within a dynamic team environment.
