The University of Adelaide is seeking applications for 2 x ARC Grant-Funded Researchers to work on ARC-Laureate funded projects initially for 2 years fixed term appointments to commence asap.

The specific topic area of these posts is the development of new light-based imaging technologies and their translation to biological research or industry.

The successful applicants will play leading roles in developing and implementing classical and quantum concepts for imaging within a vibrant team.

The work is based within the new Centre of Light for Life. The centre aims to build upon the area of photonics and its applications in other multidisciplinary fields. The imaging will be conducted with a range of biological samples, including mouse embryos and other reproductive cells, zebrafish, other marine mammals, and human tissue. The project will use novel photonics and address challenges in infertility, neurodegenerative disease. It may have future clinical applications.

The successful applicants will be required to undertake both experimental work and numerical studies and will be expected to liaise with key institutes such as the Institute of Photonics and Advanced Sensing and biologists in the Faculty of Health & Medical Sciences.

To be successful you will need:
  • A PhD in photonics and/or microscopy development
  • Experience in one of more of: light sheet imaging; fibre optics; quantum imaging; multiphoton imaging; temporal-focusing microscopy; imaging through an optical fibre and scattering media; the development and application of numerical methods of deep learning or multivariate analysis.
  • The ability to work well with people both in academia and Industry
  • The ability to plan and manage own research activity related to advanced optical imaging and conduct relevant individual and collaborative research projects
  • Good oral communication, skills in journal paper writing and literature research
