GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Under a supervisory official this position is part of The Infection Control, Healthcare, & Environmental Epidemiology (ICHEE) Section within the Communicable Disease Service Responsible for preventing and responding to Legionnaires' disease and other opportunistic premise plumbing pathogens (OPPPs). This individual will provide subject matter expertise regarding environmental health and water management. Responsible for leading Water Infection Control Risk Assessments of healthcare facilities to evaluate the risk of disease transmission based on identified water sources, potential modes of exposure and transmission, patient susceptibility, and facility policies/preparedness. This position will support Infection Control Assessment and Response (ICAR) activities within healthcare facilities as it pertains to water sources. In addition, this individual will be responsible for conducting outreach to promote the uptake of Water Management Programs (WMPs) among facilities at increased risk of OPPPs, and providing training opportunities to building owners, managers, and staff. During outbreak investigations, they will work in conjunction with epidemiological and environmental health staff to characterize building water systems and components, conducting hazard identification and risk assessments, carrying out sample collection and water quality parameter measurements, and recommend evidence-based control measures.
REQUIREMENTS (EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/LICENSES)
EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree in one of the physical, biological, or environmental sciences.
EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of experience involving research and the application of the biological, environmental, and/or physical science.
NOTE: A Doctorate degree in one of the physical, biological, or environmental sciences may be substituted for the required experience.
LICENSE: Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
