*Summary of Duties:* This position is in the Department of Plant Pathology. The position will involve studying races of the Columbia root-knot nematode and plant immune responses to nematode infections at the molecular level, with a focus on novel M. chitwoodi effectors. Position responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to the following: 1) Assist in planning and performing nematode bioassays in potatoes, tomatoes and Arabidopsis; 2) Conduct greenhouse and laboratory research on plants infected with root-knot nematodes under different plant growing conditions; 4) Evaluate gene expression analyses and confidently perform other molecular assays with nematodes and plants; 5) Tabulate, collate, summarize, and analyze data and maintain records; and 6) Prepare verbal and written reports of results to supervisor for review and use.

*Required Qualifications*:

* A PhD in plant pathology, plant science, or a related discipline.
* prior experience in molecular laboratory research in plants or nematodes
* a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
* proven ability to work independently and to work in teams
* a demonstrated ability to function with minimal supervision

*Preferred Qualifications: *

* A working knowledge of computer programs, including R or related programs for transcriptome and genome analyses.
