We are currently searching for a Scientific Program Manager for NIMH. The Child and Dimensional programs support traumatic stress research exploring basic dimensions of functioning (e.g., fear circuitry, working memory, arousal, emotion regulation) relevant to traditionally defined or perceived posttraumatic psychopathology among children, adolescents, and adults. These research programs are largely clinical with a continuum of research from mechanisms of disease risk, onset, progression, and recovery through the pursue on novel intervention targets and early-stage therapeutic development clinical trials. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of traumatic stress research. This is a full-time, on-site opportunity in Rockville, MD.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Identify gaps in existing scientific knowledge and provide recommendations for future research efforts.
  • Analyze the scientific merit and the adequacy of current and projected research programs.
  • Interpret scientific data to identify high priority, conduct portfolio analysis, identify opportunities and problem areas.
  • Interact with scientists as needed to help overcome technical hurdles or provide additional insights or expertise regarding the preparation of scientific protocols.
  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative analyses of Institute funded extramural research programs.
  • Collaborate with staff on the planning, implementation, coordination and evaluation of programs and initiatives in the assigned specialty area of research.
  • Plan, initiate, monitor, and conduct administrative/portfolio analyses to evaluate the effectiveness of the program in meeting established goals.
  • Attend review, scientific, in-house, and various other meetings; provide minutes/reports and self-directed analysis when requested.
  • Confer with other government agencies, extramural researchers and the broader scientific community on future projects, policy, and general research.
  • Provide analyses to program staff of new research proposals, both pre- and post-application, regarding scientific strengths and weaknesses, experimental design, technical approaches, and overall impact.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor scientific planning and evaluation processes.
  • Manage and proposed research plans, short and long-term goals and objects for research projects via development and tracking of project work plans.
  • Provide scientific and management support to staff on planning and implementation of projects, including setting priorities, managing assigned tasks, monitoring project status, reviewing deliverables, and providing status updates.
  • Work with staff and awardee staff to plan and execute communications and training programs related to the data science programs.
  • Provide recommendations and guidance on planned related analyses.

Requirements
  • Master's degree and 4 years of research experience
  • Back ground in Traum is required
  • Preferred Doctoral Degree
  • A background in trauma is required
  • Microsoft Office Suite
