ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Reporting to the Technical Lab Director - Regulatory Chemistry. The candidate will support the generation of foundational science relevant to our products. The Group Leader position will be located on site in our Durham, NC laboratory. This req requires a broad range of experience with modern analytical instrumental methods including GC, GC-MS and LC-MS/MS. Experience with high resolution mass spectrometry is a plus.

Additional responsibilities include:
- Generate tentative identification of unknown compounds using spectroscopy and spectrometry techniques.
- Leverage analytical chemistry data to probe reaction pathways and identify relevant downstream reaction products.
- Development and validation of analytical methods for non-routine compounds
- Review and report data generated by the group.
- Write and review scientific documents in a timely manner. (SOPs, VOPs, and Work Instructions).
- Manage the testing data and documents systematically and in a highly organized fashion.
- Train and mentor analysts and technicians.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Minimum 5 years of experience with chromatography-mass spectrometry-based techniques.
- Hands on experience with method development and validation.
- Proficiency with chromatography and mass spectrometry data analysis software
- Experience in the elucidation of unknown compounds using spectroscopy and spectrometry techniques.
- ENDS or nicotine related products experience is preferred but not required.
- Experience in aerosol chemistry is preferred but not required.
- Experience with the elucidation of compound reaction pathways is preferred but not required.
- Ability to prepare clear and concise written documents.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- High motivation and flexibility.
- BS, MS or PhD in Analytical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, or related fields.
