We are a Boston-based epidemiology and biomedical research organization. We are actively engaged in several clinical trials, pharmacoepidemiology, chronic disease epidemiology, genetic epidemiology, biostatistical and genomics research. Our research team oversees study data related activities and Quality improvement activities to improve the way translational research is conducted and clinical care is delivered. The multi-disciplinary center consists of a highly talented group of biomedical researchers, clinicians, epidemiologists, biostatisticians, data analysts/programmers, project coordinators, and informatics team with academic affiliations to Harvard Medical School and Boston University. We are looking for candidates with a service-oriented mentality, high sense of ownership of the assigned tasks and ability to solve problems presented by data.

Project Background:

Our overall project goal is to improve clinical pathways and processes to impact of Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease (ASCVD) management of Veterans through a Learning Healthcare System model of quality improvement designed to improve the management of dyslipidemia among those with high-risk ASCVD.

To achieve our ASCVD management goal, we are engaging in multiple projects, one of which is VICTORION-2 PREVENT (V2P) trial to specifically test the hypothesis that treatment with inclisiran taken in addition to well-tolerated high-intensity statin therapy in participants with established ASCVD will significantly reduce major adverse cardiovascular (MACE) events when compared to placebo in adjunct to well-tolerated high-intensity statin therapy. The Boston VA will not only act as an active enrolling site responsible for the enrollment of 25 patients into V2P but also will serve as the Coordinating Center which will be established to assistance the 10-20 VA sites that will be enrolling study eligible veterans into the V2P trial.

General Statement of Responsibilities:

The Research Assistant (RA) will focus primary on supporting V2P research activity, however, if need arise, the RA will also help support other ASCVD management projects. RA tasks: provide technical, clinical and administrative assistance including (but not limited to) recruitment and screening of research participants, conducting outcome testing and performing clinical assessments as detailed in the study protocol(s) and discussing basic operational matters with Principal Investigators and other research/clinical personnel. The position requires careful attention to detail in reviewing study data, and reliable execution of other required study related tasks as assigned by the Principal Investigator/data manager. The Research Assistant is responsible for maintaining the integrity and confidentiality of research data and serves as the focal point for interactions among the research participants enrolled in the project(s).

The Research Assistant will also work closely with Project Manager and Epidemiologist to assist with the day to day administrative activities related to the day to day operations of the VA VICTORION-2 PREVENT Network. As need arise, the RA will also help with the other ASCVD research projects under the directions of the Project Manager.

  • Responsibility for managing study participant processing and flow from initial recruitment, informed consent and enrollment, to referral to the appropriate intervention arm of the study (if applicable), and follow-up assessments.
  • Conducting surveys using standardized survey instruments or specific assessment tools detailed in the study protocol(s).
  • Entering research data into computerized data sets per research protocol(s) and established SOPs.
  • Reviewing and verifying research data ensuring appropriate data tracking, storage and security procedures are in place.
  • Compiling, preparing, and providing assistance in developing statistical data and special reports, compiling/preparing drafts and finalizing papers and/or similar instructional materials in support of research program specialties.
  • Operating specialized research equipment when necessary.
  • Performing literature searches for scientific and technical data, and developing scientific posters of research results for dissemination at national meetings as directed by the Principal Investigator or Data Manager.
  • Maintaining integrity and confidentiality of data, private health information and personal identifying information.
  • Assisting project management and key personnel with study management and execution including the maintenance of regulatory documents related to enrollment and coordinating center activities such as newsletters, recruitment reports, site communications, and annual Continuing Review activities.
  • Adhering to IRB and Department of Veterans Affairs' (VA) policies regarding data privacy and information security (e.g., HIPAA and other regulatory policies)
  • Provide supports on all aspects of the research project(s) across multiple projects

  • Bachelors level education in scientific/clinical field required (Bachelor in Public Health preferred and at least 2 years of relevant research experience).
  • Competent writing, reporting and communication skills.
  • Ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to the changing demands of the organization

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

No travel is expected for this position.
