Who We Are:

Our Team is responsible for the design, development, and analysis of powertrain components, engines, energy storage, transmissions, and vehicles.

Objectives of this Role:

  • Drive improvements in the division's compliance with government regulations and Southwest Research Institute programs for comprehensive employee protection.
  • Ensure that OSHA requirements are being met by the Division.
  • Implement improvements and corrective actions to reduce or eliminate health and safety hazards in the workplace.
  • Make positive contributions to on-going and planned research projects to identify risks and promote safe lab operations.
  • Serve as Safety Point of Contact (POC) for the Powertrain Engineering Division and liaison between employees and corporate Safety.


Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:

  • Assist with Job Safety Analyses, Hazard Assessments, PPE Selection, Emergency Action Plans and documentation of training. Work with technicians, supervisors and engineering teams on hazard identification and mitigations.
  • Develop, assign and conduct appropriate safety training for new and existing staff. Monitor upcoming and overdue training reports to drive on-time completion.
  • Oversee the division's Haz Com & LOTO programs. Support Corporate Safety in managing the Respiratory Protection & Hearing Conservation programs. Respond to incidents, accidents, injuries and emergency calls and assist in investigations and follow up on corrective actions.
  • Participate in Safety POC and ACSEI meetings monthly. Provide executive summary of items that are relative to the division and prepare & present safety briefs for division staff. Prepare safety moments, safety updates and presentations for management.
  • Continue to develop safety engineering skills and maintain relationships of trust with customers and co-workers. Work with lab supervisors to participate in annual Safety Surveillance Audits.


Requirements:

  • Requires a Bachelors with a 3.00 GPA in Industrial Safety, Engineering, Science or related STEM degree with related experience
  • Certified Safety Professional or desire and ability to achieve CSP while working; tuition reimbursement program available when applicable
  • 1-6 years: Problem solving or improvement project experience in a lab, scientific, mechanical, or other industrial environment
  • Experience in occupational safety, safety inspection or other safety related assignments
  • A valid/clear driver's license is required


Special Requirements:

Must be a U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident due to ITAR work in section.
