The primary purpose of the Nurse Manager of the Emergency Department position is to operationalize the care delivery system in ED through the skillful directing, coaching, support and delegation to staff in the provision of clinically and fiscally sound care and services to achieve patient/family goals, efficiency and safety. The Nurse Manager has 24 hours responsibility for the unit/service area and develops dynamically functioning surgical teams. She/he sustains the daily operational functioning of the surgical service and makes immediate modifications to prevent impediments and delays. This role is also accountable for the execution of the unit/service area Performance Improvement Plan.
The Nurse Manager of the ED has extensive knowledge of the American Nurses Association Standards of Clinical Practice, ENA Standards, Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Health Organization Standards, Patient Bill of Rights, Department of Health Standards, Patient/Family Centered Principles Policies and Procedures. They engenders confidence, trust and fosters collaborative/collegial relationships that generate staff achievement and pride. As a license professional and member of the University Hospital leadership team, the Nurse Manager exemplifies the behavioral expectations articulated for this role.
Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Jersey. Bachelor's Degree in Nursing is required and a Master's Degree is preferred. Minimum of (3) years clinical care delivery experience. Certification in Quality Improvement Techniques is preferred. BLS (CPR) is required.
