About This Role:



This position is responsible for the development of nucleic acid amplification assays and reagents serving the life sciences, and ensuring product quality based on thorough science. Integral to the product development process, the Senior Research & Development Scientist will be involved in all phases of product release, including the choice of critical raw materials, selection of release criteria, and the validation, testing, and optimization of assay or kit components. As part of the R&D team, this position will share matrixed responsibilities with team members to meet development goals. The Senior Research & Development Scientist also provides technical leadership, leads project teams, and assists with training new employees.





Activities:


  • Develop and validate nucleic acid amplification assays, including experimental design, assessing product manufacturability, optimizing product stability, and ensuring adequate supply of critical raw materials
  • Evaluate new technology and combine it with applications appropriate to product focus areas, to suggest and implement product improvement and new product ideas
  • Collaborate with team members concerning product development, quality, and resource allocation
  • Test raw materials, in-process reagents, and finished products; analyze and monitor product stabilities
  • Prepare all kit or assay reagents for development processes
  • Build efficiencies into work processes to streamline new product development and ensure smooth transition from development into production
  • Help produce all necessary documentation to streamline and accelerate transfer from development to manufacturing, including product specification sheets and inserts
  • Lead project teams for assigned products, including allocating resources, troubleshooting, and managing to deadlines
  • Assist the Group Leader with technical training for new employees
  • Maintain complete, neat, and accurate electronic lab notebooks and other records
  • Maintain work area, equipment, and supplies
  • Participate in external scientific meetings and collaborate with academic and industrial scientists, as applicable




About You:



Education: Ph.D. in a scientific field; or equivalent combination of education and experience

Experience: 5+ years of related laboratory scientific experience, with PCR/qPCR troubleshooting/optimization, protein purification and analytical techniques, and a molecular biology or microbiology background

Skills:

Proven history and capability of successful scientific project execution and completion, manifested by publication and/or presentation record. Excellent oral and written communication skills, documentation skills, analytical and problem-solving skills

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple overlapping and evolving priorities, while adhering to imposed deadlines

Proven ability to work in a team environment, lead project teams, and both accept and impart instruction and training

Travel: To scientific and industry conferences as needed
