Job Description Summary
The Nursing and Allied Health division at Cuesta College is looking for a Full-Time Tenure Track Licensed Vocational Nursing Instructor. The position requires the candidate to teach both theory and clinical courses in both Fall and Spring semesters and assume the role and responsibilities of a full-time faculty including those listed below. The program is three-semesters with a Fall and Spring start every other year. Graduates are eligible to take the NCLEX-PN leading to licensure as a Vocational Nurse. The nursing program has graduated more than 374 students since its inception in 2006 and boasts high licensure exam pass rates. Classroom instruction incorporates a simulation lab and modern technology. Our program emphasizes hands-on care, strong teamwork and collaboration. The majority of clinical experience will be with geriatric patients in long-term care facilities.

TEACHING RESPONSIBILITIES:Faculty are responsible for choosing appropriate course materials, developing a student-centered equity-minded syllabus adhering to a college-approved Course Outline of Record, outlining classroom expectations, and content to be covered as well as developing a plan for content delivery. This position requires regular communication with students throughout the semester, office hour availability, assigning grades, and referral of students to appropriate support services, as needed. Due to changes in instruction delivery, instructors will be expected to become online teaching certified, if not already certified.

Appropriate evidence for the candidate includes, but is not limited to, experience, training, or achievement:

  • Commitment staying up-to-date with the latest developments in nursing and nursing education and in collaboration with industry and/or professional organizations;
  • Ability to continuously reflect, evaluate, and improve teaching methods;
  • Ability to organize and explain materials/instructions in an appropriate manner to address students' abilities and learning styles;
  • Ability to use teaching methods that engage students actively in their own learning, promote development of critical thinking and clinical reasoning skills and encourages students to become lifelong learners;
  • Ability to use instructional methods that emphasize cultural sensitivity;
  • Ability to motivate students from a broad spectrum of cultural, academic, socioeconomic, and language backgrounds;
  • Ability to develop and assess student learning outcomes, as well as identifying methods for achievement of those outcomes.

COLLEGE AND DEPARTMENTAL RESPONSIBILITIESCollege or departmental responsibilities will include the following:
  • Developing, participating, and/or updating program curriculum;
  • Completing and submitting course assessments and evaluations;
  • Serving on college committees (Participatory Governance);
  • Participating and contributing to program review;
  • Participating in Peer evaluations and hiring committees;
  • Scheduling and working with full-time and part-time instructors in the department;
  • Collaborating with classified staff and program director;
  • Serve as a liaison for community healthcare organizations;
  • Collegial, professional, and ethical conduct;
  • Distance Education Certification (by end of Fall 2022).

Essential Functions & Qualifications
Required:
-Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and 2 years of experience in the field;
OR
-Associate's degree from an accredited institution and 6 years of experience in the field;
OR
- The equivalent (candidates making application on the basis of equivalency must submit all materials requested for an equivalency judgment, indicated on the Equivalency Process link listed in Additional Information);
OR
-The minimum qualifications as set by the Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians shall meet the requirements of Subsection A or B, below:
(A) Registered Nurse:1. Hold a current California active license as a Registered Nurse; AND2. Hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited school; OR a valid teaching credential; OR have completed a minimum of one year full-time teaching experience in a state approved registered nursing or vocational or practical nursing, or psychiatric technician school within the last five years; OR met community college or state university teaching requirements in California; AND3. Have a minimum of two years' experience as a registered nurse or licensed vocational nurse within the last five years.(B) Licensed Vocational Nurse:1. Hold a current California active license as a Vocational Nurse; AND2. Hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited school; OR a valid teaching credential; OR have completed a minimum of one year full-time teaching experience in a state approved registered nursing or vocational or practical nursing, or psychiatric technician school within the last five years; OR met community college or state university teaching requirements in California; AND 3. Have a minimum of two years' experience as a vocational nurse within the last five years.
Desired:
  • Masters or bachelor's degree in nursing preferred;
  • Teaching experience directly related to the teaching assignment at the community college level;
  • Experience in geriatric and long-term care nursing;
  • Demonstrated understanding of, and commitment to, the mission and objectives of California Community Colleges;
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with colleagues, students, and industry partners;
  • Ability to contribute to the development of the Licensed Vocational Nursing policies and procedures;
  • Experience using computers and/or multimedia equipment;
  • Demonstrated commitment to lifelong learning and professional development;
  • Demonstrates ability to employ a variety of teaching techniques and strategies to address the diverse learning needs of students;
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.

Interview Process Information
Selected applicants will be asked to interview for a full-time tenure track position as a Licensed Vocational Nurse instructor in the Allied Health Division on Wednesday, July 6, 2022.

Second interviews will be held on Tuesday, July 12, 2022.

The selected applicant will begin their full-time teaching assignment in the 2022-2023 school year which begins on Tuesday, August 9, 2022. Assignments will be weekday and weekend on the North County Campus in Paso Robles.
