Position description
The Muir College Writing Program courses engage in critical analysis in thinking, reading, and writing during which students must advance beyond the basic competency expected at entrance to understand and write discourse acceptable at the university level. Even when faced with challenging topics, students must demonstrate the ability to comprehend textual arguments at more than a superficial level; their writing must exhibit an understanding of academic arguments and analysis. Part-time non-tenure track lectureships are available for the 2022-2023 academic year. Appointments vary from one to up to three quarters. The instructor may teach MCWP 40, 50, or 125. MCWP 125 is a writing course specifically for transfer students.

Salary commensurate with experience and based on published UC pay scales.

*Teaching evaluations, sample syllabus, and letters of recommendation may be required if the applicant is selected as a top candidate.

For this Transition Year only, we will be using AP Recruit to review current/internal appointees and also collect applicants. This process was created to streamline these efforts as the campus transitions to the new process for Unit 18 Lecturers.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
  • A Ph.D., M.F.A., MA, or MS in any field is required by time of application

Preferred qualifications
  • Degree in Composition, Rhetoric, Writing Studies, English, Literature or other related field
  • Demonstrated proficiency in teaching writing in a University setting
  • A commitment to student learning and experience in a collaborative work environment.
  • Familiarity with using a LMS
  • Experience with teaching writing about, but not in, the sciences, humanities and humanistic social sciences, or social and environmental justice
  • Demonstrated strong leadership or commitment to support diversity, equity, and inclusion in an academic setting.
