Location/Division

The Chemical Analysis Division (CAD) provides a diverse mix of analytical instruments and associated services to a broad range of end-user markets including Safety & Security, Environmental, Food Safety, Energy, Mining, Life Science Manufacturing and Recycling, to name a few. Its instruments are deployed in the field and on the line, in challenging environments where customers put a premium on robustness, reliability and ease of use. They allow them to make decisions where they operate and streamline their businesses. CAD is a complex division with a global footprint, broad product portfolio and diverse customer base.

Within our North American Field and Safety (FSI) Business Unit, we are looking for an experienced and motivated Product Applications Engineer with a focus on Biopharma applications and if required extending to other product lines and or applications. This remote-based position will ideally be based in the Western US.

How will you make an impact?

As a Product Applications Engineer, you will support the commercial sales team on technical initiatives and priorities within the pharmaceutical and biopharma product segment. Facilitate field-based product demonstrations, product training and product troubleshooting. You will gain a deep understanding of the product lines, our markets, and how to ensure customers are successful with our products. The candidate will work collaboratively with the sales team to identify clear customer needs and to facilitate the demonstration of the technical feasibility for the divisions pharmaceutical industry solutions. Critical to this role is a strong connection to our product organization to provide feedback to product development about the evolving needs of our customers and new products to better meet customers needs in the markets we serve.

What will you do?
  • Support the sales organization in both presales demonstrations and post-sales customer support functions to ensure successful customer outcomes.
  • Research and Author technical notes, white papers, and application notes in collaboration with our marketing teams around industry-relevant applications of our tools.
  • Maintain and catalog feasibility test reports from customer demonstrations.
  • Provide technical leadership to the sales and product management teams for better positioning of our technical solutions in the market.
  • Engage with industry thought leaders in the development of new applications of our technology in the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Provide internal technical consultation and support for our customers goals and new product developments.
  • Attend and present in technical programs on our Divisions products at trade shows and exhibitions.
  • Maintain good working relationships with our global technical community of applications
  • Collaborate with the internal partners on the development of training tools for customers, and distributors. Content will include web-based training modules and videos.
  • Act as a conduit for VOC exercises for Product Management and Marketing.

How will you get here?

Education
  • Minimum education requirement is a Bachelors degree, ideally in Chemistry, Engineering or Biochemistry

Experience
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in Chemometrics related to pharmaceutical research, sales, or product support roles.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience with molecular spectroscopy involving Raman and NIR. Experience with handheld spectroscopy tools and markets strongly preferred.
  • Experience scheduling and completing customer or channel partner visits.

Position may require Covid-19 vaccination, including a booster and/or routine testing, per client discretion. As a requirement to be onsite at Thermo Fisher Scientific this position requires vaccination status disclosure upon employment.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Advanced familiarity with Chemometrics packages including Eigenvector Solo or PLS toolbox.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite applications.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing, to management, customers, and third parties.
  • Ability to travel domestically up to 50%.
