About the Job
The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities invites applications to a full-time tenure-track position beginning fall 2022 in the areas of controls or manufacturing. Candidates with an interest in the application domains of transportation systems, robotics, medical devices, fluid power, instrumentation design, or tribology are particularly encouraged. We are seeking a faculty candidate who complements current expertise in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and who plans to grow strategic synergistic collaborations within the department and the University. We primarily seek candidates at the Assistant Professor level; however, senior tenured appointments are possible for exceptionally qualified candidates.
Qualifications
Applicants must have an earned Ph.D. (or equivalent degree) in mechanical engineering (or a closely related discipline) by the date of appointment. The successful candidate is expected to have the potential to conduct a vigorous and innovative research program. They should also have the ability to effectively teach graduate and undergraduate level courses to a diverse group of engineering students. The candidates research and teaching activities should enhance the departments teaching and research missions.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering is home to 43 faculty, 333 graduate students, and 488 undergraduate students. UMN ME provides a high quality student experience founded on a research integrated education, with learning opportunities that capitalize on the unique aspects of our department and state. Our research encompasses all areas of mechanical engineering and addresses societal challenges in the areas of energy, environment and sustainability, human health, next-generation manufacturing, and robotics and mobility. The department is part of the College of Science and Engineering, a highly interdisciplinary college comprised of 12 departments covering engineering, physical sciences, mathematics, and computer science. The college and the University actively encourage and provide resources for interdisciplinary research collaborations.
