The School of Social Science and Global Studies at The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track, Assistant Teaching Professor of Legal Studies beginning August 2022. This is a teaching-track position with opportunities for promotion. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong background in the study of law and a commitment to undergraduate education. Duties include a 4:4 teaching load, coordinating the Legal Studies BA program, and active student mentorship.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
+ Teach four courses per semester, fall and spring.
+ Serve as the coordinator of the Legal Studies BA program, including the preparation accreditation reports to ensure continued approval of the program by the American Bar Association.
+ Hold regular office hours.
+ Supervise the Academic Services staff person assigned to the Legal Studies Program to ensure consistency in advisement, assessment efforts, and accreditation filings.
+ Supervise student internships in coordination with Academic Services Coordinator.
+ Mentor and advise students in the program.
+ Assist students in job placement upon graduation.
+ Attend faculty meetings as determined by the Director of the School of Social Science and Global Studies.
+ Engage in professional development and/or scholarly activities appropriate to the mission of the School, College and University.
+ Provide service to assist the functioning of the School, College, and University.
+ Performs other duties as assigned.
Juris Doctorate from an American Bar Association-accredited law school. Current license to practice law in at least one jurisdiction. A minimum of 3 years of experience in the actual practice of law.
At least 1 year of experience supervising paralegals while practicing law or working as a paralegal. At least 1 year of teaching experience in an American Bar Association approved paralegal studies program.
