Full-time, non-tenure track lectureships with the Warren College Writing Program at UC San Diego will be available beginning August 2022.
The Warren College Writing Program is one of eight writing programs at UC San Diego. Embedded in Earl Warren College, the program aligns its curriculum with the college's theme, "A life in balance," and the college's namesake, former Supreme Court Chief Justice Earl Warren. Taken together, they inspire Warren writing students, faculty, and staff to place issues of justice and equity squarely in the balance of our teaching and learning.
The program comprises a two-course sequence for incoming first-year students: Warren Writing 10A and Warren Writing 10B. Incoming, upper-division transfer students take Warren Writing 100.
In these courses, the Warren Writing program empowers students with the writing knowledge, habits and skills needed to analyze the historical origins of 21st century, real-world problems. Students learn to listen, question, and engage with differing perspectives as they discover what they stand for, what they believe, and why. We provide students with the communicative tools needed to write clearly, effectively, and compassionately to a variety of audiences about the solutions most needed to restore balance and equity in our communities.
Lecturers will be expected to teach some shared material, develop new lesson plans and course materials, mentor student writing projects, conference with students, and utilize alternative grading methods. As members of a shared intellectual community, lecturers are expected to contribute to the ongoing evaluation and development of the program and collaborate with Warren Writing Program lecturers, administrators and staff. As part of this collaboration, lecturers attend a fall quarter pedagogy orientation along with weekly pedagogy meetings throughout the academic year. Support for course design and implementation will be provided by the Director and/or Associate Director.
For this Transition Year only, we will be using AP Recruit to review current/internal appointees and also collect applicants. This process was created to streamline efforts these efforts as the campus transitions to the new process for Unit 18 Lectures.

A Ph.D., M.F.A., MA, or MS in any field is required by time of applicationPreferred qualifications
A successful candidate must have:
- Demonstrated experience and excellence teaching undergraduate writing courses or mentoring student projects
- Demonstrated ability and/or intellectual interest in teaching about issues of justice and ethics that advance the college's theme, "A life in balance" and/or the college's focus on justice and ethics in society
- Experience in curricular planning and development
- Experience and/or intellectual interest in learning and applying non-traditional methods of grading
- Outstanding interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work well in a team-oriented academic environment with colleagues representing many backgrounds and interests
- An ability to work effectively with students representing diverse backgrounds, interests, and levels of preparation
- Demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in higher education.
