The primary responsibility of the Associate Dean and Director of Community Engagement is to provide support, vision, and direction for service and community engagement on and off campus. The Associate Dean and Director supervises the Office of Community Engagement, supports community collaboratives, works collaboratively with campus partners, and is the primary liaison to the Bonner Foundation and responsible for directing the Bonner program. The Associate Dean and Director has responsibility for programmatic administration of service and community engagement endowments and funds. Community Engagement staff work regularly with students, faculty and local agencies to support initiatives throughout Crawford County. They encourage student learning through community engagement and participate in student affairs activities such as residence life training, orientation, leadership, advising student organizations, and admissions events.
The Associate Dean and Director of Community Engagement will provide supervision and oversight for staffing, budgeting, and programming within the Office of Community Engagement; oversee collection and assessment of data related to the goals and outcomes of community engagement and student service; manage college-wide service programs and events; maintain partnerships across divisions within the College, including but not limited to Academic Affairs, Athletics, Institutional Advancement, Student Affairs, and Sustainability; maintain partnerships with community partners and organizations and service on community boards as appropriate; advise individual students and student organizations concerning community engagement and service opportunities; direct the Bonner Program (Scholar and Leader); and co-teach Bonner capstone course.
Minimum qualifications include a Master's degree in a related field and at least five years of experience in community engagement or a related field. Demonstrated cultural competence in working with students from diverse backgrounds is essential. Prior experience with the Bonner Program and/or AmeriCorps is preferable. The successful candidate will possess a strong ethic of service, strong written and verbal communication skills, the ability to work collaboratively, and experience with grant writing/management, supervision, professional development, and community partnership development. Knowledge of the community beyond the college will be essential to this position. Some travel is expected, as is the ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends as needed. A valid driver's license is also strongly preferred.
