The Faculty of Dentistry invites applications for a full-time faculty position in the Department of Oral Biological and Medical Sciences, Division of Periodontics at UBC.

The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor of Teaching, with consideration of a higher rank depending on qualifications. The successful candidate will be expected to coordinate and oversee teaching of Periodontology to undergraduate (DMD) program and also assist with teaching in the Graduate Periodontics specialty Program and the undergraduate Dental Hygiene Program. The position involves a large portion of teaching, course coordination, curriculum management and coordination with, the Periodontics Division Chair, the DMD Program Director and the Department Head for assignment of Instructors and ensuring high quality teaching for students. It is expected the candidate will develop a strong connection with community periodontists and with related industry partners.

 
 


Applicants must have a DDS/DMD or equivalent and a least a MSc. degree; have completed postgraduate training in periodontics; and must be a licensed specialist in periodontics in Canada or eligible for specialty licensure. This is a tenure-stream position in educational leadership and the successful candidate will be expected to develop a portfolio in educational research, educational leadership, teaching innovation, evaluation of teaching, teaching effectiveness, etc. The candidate will be expected to seek independent funding for research, both internally (see: HERE) and externally from governmental and non-governmental sources. Applicants with a PhD and/or degrees in Education will be preferred. Supervision of undergraduate students in summer projects is expected as well as graduate students if qualifications are approved by UBC Faculty of Graduate Studies.

 

In addition, the ideal applicant is expected to have teaching experience with small groups seminars and casebased learning. The ideal candidate will be able to perform advanced periodontal and implant related surgical procedures. Experience in digital dentistry will be desirable as a new Digital Dentistry facility will be completed in 2022 and integrated with innovation in teaching and training of our students.

The successful candidate will be expected to further develop the existing Undergraduate Periodontics program and effectively interact with other disciplines in the Faculty. Furthermore, the successful applicant will be expected to contribute to high quality graduate teaching and effective supervision of graduate students. In addition, participation in the teaching implant surgery and periodontics in the DMD and other programs is expected. The candidate will have strong interpersonal skills. They will build trust through an open, respectful and collegial approach and will be an eager collaborator who is able to work in a highly interactive and productive manner with faculty, staff and students across the Department, Faculty and the University.
