Applications are invited for a full-time Laboratory Technician to support a range of research studies and trials with a focus on the molecular analysis of cancer and the human immune system. The post will be part of the Innate and Adaptive Immunotherapy Group, led by Prof Christian Ottensmeier, Dr Tilman Sanchez-Elsner and Dr Pandurangan Vijayanand.

The post will be based in the Southampton General Hospital site; the role falls within the remit of the Clinical and Experimental Sciences Unit in the Faculty of Medicine, which provides a stimulating working environment for more than 100 scientists, clinicians and associated staff, investigating cancer and its treatment.

The post-holder will have experience of handling patient samples and processing them to a high quality. You will process a range of patient samples for storage, including blood products and tissues, as well as perform fresh or batched analyses within a highly quality controlled system. You will be required to comply with meticulous record keeping and database management for all processes undertaken and, where pertinent, comply with requirements of GCP for laboratories; training will be provided where necessary. We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual who is able to work flexibly as part of a team as well as independently. Ideally, you will have research experience in immunological techniques and hold a Bachelor's Degree, Higher BTEC or equivalent. You will be able and willing to commit to some out of hours work to facilitate acquisition and processing of human (cancer) tissue samples and for group and collaborator meetings.

You must undergo occupational clearance for the job role; previous occupational clearance for similar job roles will be an advantage.

The appointment is full time, fixed-term for 2 years in the first instance.
