Exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Researcher to be part of the Australian Institute for Machine Learning and contribute to world leading Augmented Reasoning research projects.

The advertised position is for an enthusiastic and highly motivated postdoctoral research scientist to work within the newly established Centre for Augmented Reasoning in the machine learning and augmented reasoning focused research group of Dr Lingqiao Liu, on the project Towards 'Small Data, Big Problem' Learning and Reasoning Paradigms in Theme 3: Knowledge, Representation and Generalisation.

The Centre for Augmented Reasoning (CAR) is a $20M investment by the Department of Education, Skills and Employment in people and research supporting Advanced Reasoning research through grants and PhD scholarships, facilitating innovation and rapid commercialisation, and increasing AI literacy and engagement in Australia.

CAR is headquartered in AIML, at the University of Adelaide, and is supported by all the university infrastructure. AIML is Australia's leading research institute in machine learning, artificial intelligence and computer vision with over 140 members including academics, research staff, and students.

The successful candidate will be responsible for driving their own research as well as contributing to team members' projects. The postdoctoral researcher may contribute to the supervision of honours and/or postgraduate research projects within the field of the staff member's area of research. Additionally, they will contribute to the preparation or, where appropriate, individual preparation of research proposal submissions to external funding bodies.

To be successful you will need:
  1. A PhD in computer vision, machine learning, or natural language processing.
  2. Experience and demonstrable expert knowledge in one or more of the following areas: computer vision, natural language processing, deep learning, few-shot learning, incremental learning/life-long learning, domain generalisation, semi-supervised learning, or unsupervised learning.
  3. Clear record of driving to success your own research demonstrated by an excellent publication record.
  4. Programming experience and expertise in Python/Numpy, or C/C++ or other relevant language, with experience in working with deep learning tools such as Pytorch or Tensorflow.
  5. A strong work ethic, and the ability to work well independently, and as a member of a broader team, including with industrial partners.

In addition to the above, to be successful at Level C you will need:
  1. A PhD qualification in computer science with at least 4 years of postdoctoral or equivalent industrial experience in computer vision, machine learning, artificial intelligence or other closely related area.
  2. A demonstrated strong record of publications in top-tier Machine Learning, Computer Vision Conferences and/or journals, commensurate with experience and opportunity.
  3. Significant experience and demonstrable expert knowledge in one or more or the following areas: computer vision, natural language processing, deep learning, few-shot learning, incremental learning/life-long learning, domain generalisation, semi-supervised learning, or unsupervised learning.
