Purpose:
Overview:
The Management and Entrepreneurship Department of the Leavey
School of Business at Santa Clara University invites applications
for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Business Ethics,
beginning in September 2023.
We invite applications from individuals working at the frontiers
of business ethics. We encourage applications from candidates with
a background in normative ethics - the branch of philosophical
ethics that investigates questions of how one ought to act - as
well as from those with academic specializations in the related
fields of management, organizational behavior, organizational
theory, sociology, psychology, and law, provided they have teaching
competencies in normative business ethics.
Successful candidates will have a doctoral degree or equivalent in
business ethics, philosophy, management, or a closely related field
from an accredited university. The terminal degree must be
completed, or near completion, by the start date. Candidates must
have a demonstrated ability to publish their research in
high-quality, peer-reviewed scholarly journals. They should be
prepared to teach applied business ethics and managerial
decision-making as they relate to business and societal contexts.
Demonstrated excellence in teaching (at the undergraduate and/or
graduate levels) is expected.
Basic Qualifications
The Leavey School of Business and Santa Clara University have a
long tradition of excellence in normative business ethics. The
courses a successful applicant will be expected to teach at the
undergraduate and MBA levels require instructors to assure learning
in normative ethics. Accordingly, applicants should have a Ph.D. or
equivalent in business ethics, philosophy, or a closely related
field, and must be capable of teaching courses in normative
business ethics. The Ph.D. must be completed, or near completion,
by the start date. Candidates must have a demonstrated ability to
publish original research on normative business ethics topics in
high-quality peer-reviewed scholarly journals such as Business
Ethics Quarterly and the Journal of Business Ethics
and also have demonstrated excellence in teaching at the
undergraduate and/or graduate level.
Responsibilities:
(A ) Teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in
business ethics and other related topics and fulfilling the
responsibilities associated with those courses;
(B) Maintaining a program of research leading to publications in
high-quality journals; and,
(C) Providing suitable service to the Department, University,
profession, and/or community.
