Company: J&J Editorial, a Wiley brand

At Wiley, we welcome you for who you are, the background you bring, and embrace individuals who get excited about learning whether online or by book. Learning is for everyone, and so is our workplace. Bring your experiences, your perspectives, and your passion. It's in our differences that we empower the way the world learns.

J&J Editorial is a growing organization that supports the editorial management of a variety of scholarly publications, primarily academic journals. J&J's employees are experts in helping editorial offices set priorities and create the workflow necessary for submission growth and timely publication.

About the role:

The Senior Manager works closely with the Associate Director and other Senior Managers in the Editorial Division to effectively and efficiently execute client contracts. This position plays a strategic role in developing staff, establishing relationships with clients, and providing input on the future direction of the business unit. The Senior Manager manages a group of Client Managers and Project Managers, who in turn oversee a group of editorial projects and their staff.

This role also serves on the J&J Editorial leadership team and actively participates in company-level strategic planning, and provides input on decisions made at the business-unit level.

How you will make an impact:
  • Work with Client Managers to ensure quality assurance and client satisfaction across the departments you oversee. Partner with Client Managers to maximize profitability without sacrificing quality based on policies set by the Associate Director.
  • Work with the J&J Editorial business development team to support the acquisition and onboarding of new clients. Write proposals and take part in sales calls for prospective clients seeking editorial services, with input from the Associate Director.
  • Manage contract process for new clients and renegotiations for existing clients in their group, including getting approvals on pricing/rates from the Associate Director and communicating contract details to relevant individuals.
  • Manage client accounts by understanding the requested services according to the client contract, selecting appropriate staff to fulfil the contract requirements, introducing the client to J&J staff and navigating the transition period, and serving as a point of contact for the client's future issues or contract changes.
  • Improve internal processes, protocols, and best practices for the services provided.
  • Monitor the distribution of work/staff time and identify needs of your departments. Develop sustainable solutions to these workforce issues. Work in conjunction with the Staffing Resource Manager and make decisions on when hiring is needed, with input from Client Manager(s) and Staffing Resource Manager.
  • Collaborate with the Associate Director and other Senior Managers to define Division-level issues and develop solutions to implement as a group (eg, workforce sustainability, manager development, skills training, etc).

What we are looking for:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a publishing related role
  • Minimum of 2 years of managing direct reports
  • Proficiency in at least one major online peer review system (eg, ScholarOne, Editorial Manager, eJP); experience with more than one preferable
  • Experience directly managing client projects
  • Experience providing outstanding customer service, managing complex projects with multiple stakeholders, and managing teams of employees in accordance with company policies and culture
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks within a time-driven, deadline-based environment
