FIE offers unrivalled, life-changing study abroad programmes for US undergraduate students in the UK, Ireland and Spain. We create active educational experiences that expand minds, foster cultural intelligence and open up exciting future opportunities. We are a values-driven community, invested in making a difference. We advance sustainable thinking, enabling students to positively impact their community, society and the wider world.

FIE London is currently seeking to contract qualified, enthusiastic, and confident sessional instructors to teach an undergraduate course in Social Psychology in a Global Context in future terms.

The ideal instructor will have a relevant postgraduate degree, doctorate preferred, in a directly related field and have experience of teaching at the undergraduate level. Experience teaching American undergraduates at a range of levels is preferred as FIE classes are delivered to undergraduates from a variety of institutions, predominantly American universities. Faculty are responsible for all aspects of course preparation, teaching, and assessment.

FIE's courses are designed so that students can actively participate in their host country's culture. All courses are supported by co-curricular activities (field trips, site visits, guest speakers, interactive experiences) that foster community connection and understanding. By discovering and experiencing knowledge beyond the classroom students shape their own perspective of the world. Anyone who teaches for us must be willing and eager to use the location of London in creative ways, incorporating experiential components as part of their teaching delivery strategy.

This course combines theoretical studies of social psychology with practical and experiential work and the objective is to consider social psychology in terms of international relationships in order to explore how different cultures and continents think and behave. This is a dynamic course which attempts to be relevant to current events worldwide including such topics as global demographics in relation to the Earth's increasingly limited resources, the evolution of national identities, the role of prejudice and discrimination, factors that contribute to social compliance as opposed to social unrest as well as the impact of the Internet and social media.

A course outline is available to download here .

Schedule and dates: FIE's study abroad programmes run in autumn, winter/spring and summer terms, from 4 to 15 weeks in duration. Our signature autumn and spring semester programmes start in September and January, with courses normally running either once a week (3 hours) for 14 weeks, or twice a week (2 x 3 hours) for 7 weeks. Classes can meet in morning, afternoon, or evening timeslots and we schedule these in collaboration with faculty depending on their availability.

Pay: £3450 for a course with 42 contact hours.

Interviews:will be held in person in London on a rolling basis.

This is a sessional fixed term contract for services and not employment. Candidates must be registered, or be able to register, as self-employed in the UK. Those on a VISA may not be eligible for self-employment.

To apply please send your CV and a cover letter (detailing your teaching philosophy and background) to academics@fie.org.uk .
