The R&D Discovery and Technology Futures group is seeking a highly motivated Principal Scientist with exceptional technical skill in PCR assay design and development to join the Genomics division, which is at the forefront of innovating the next generation of IDEXX products. The successful candidate will be energetic, inquisitive, and excel in a highly collaborative and multi-disciplinary environment. The candidate will join a team of experienced scientists at the MS and PhD levels to create and refine molecular diagnostics for identified targets. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of success in molecular diagnostic assay commercialization.

What you will do:
  • PCR Concept Assay Design
  • Interface with Clinical Research Team for targeted acquisition of samples for clinical validation
  • Support the transition from target identification by the Discovery team through Concept Assay Design and handoff to the New Product Development team for IDEXX Reference Lab deployment
  • Droplet digital PCR (ddPCR) assay design and development for early cancer detection
  • Next generation sequencing (NGS) assay clinical applications for precision oncology

What you need to succeed:
  • Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology or Biochemistry, or related discipline
  • 5+ years of post-graduate experience leading projects in the molecular diagnostics
  • 2+ years of industry project leadership experience in molecular diagnostics
  • Experience with a broad range of molecular biology and analytical techniques (nucleic acid extraction and quality control, PCR, real-time PCR, ddPCR, primer design, gene cloning, western blot and immunohistochemistry)
  • Hands-on experience with PCR assay design, optimization, and troubleshooting
  • Knowledge of different sequencing platforms (DNA and RNA Sequencing, targeted DNA and RNASeq, amplicon-based sequencing, ChIP-Seq, Single cell sequencing and or other NGS assays)
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively as part of a team.
  • Organizational skills and ability to plan work.
  • Takes initiative and is accountable (shows ownership); focuses on task at hand; detail oriented.
  • Adaptable.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and handle the stress of deadlines.
