Our Analytical Instruments Group offers customers in research, academic, industrial and applied markets a complete range of high-end analytical instruments as well as laboratory equipment, software and services. Within this group, our Materials & Structural Analysis Division designs, manufactures, and supports the broadest range of high-performance microscopy workflows that provide images and answers in the micro-, nano-, and picometer scales. Our research combines hardware and software expertise in electron, ion, FTIR, NIR, NMR UV/VIS and light microscopy with deep application knowledge in the materials science, life sciences, electronics, and natural resources markets.
How will you make an impact?
With your extensive experience in the design, modeling, characterization, and hands on approach in product development of system-level architecture, you will work with a distributed team of developers and collaborators in the United States and Europe to develop electron microscope products.
What will you do?
Become the technical lead for product development projects as well as feasibility studies
Develop project definitions with the product manager, project leader and specialists
Translate market requirements into system requirements, system architecture, system design, and translate into function / module requirements
Create high level system and sub-system design and architecture
Conduct feasibility studies, including modeling and simulation, as appropriate to guide system architecture
Consolidate and synchronize technology, platform and module roadmaps on the one hand and product roadmaps on the other hand
Optimize system-level performance (resolution, quality, throughput, cost) during the product development phases via simulation and / or design of experiments data
Communicate & document of own & teamwork, through presentations & reports
Drive cost down and obsolescence removal and prevention as well as system design innovations
Application of innovative principles and practices relevant to the area of system architecture and system design
How will you get here?
MS degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical discipline; PhD degree may be substituted for some years of experience
6+ years experience in leading the development of electron microscopes, complex electro-mechanical, and/or automation solutions including requirements management, system design and system analysis
Experienced with modeling, simulation, design of experiments (DOE) and statistical analysis
Working and fundamental knowledge of nanotechnology, particle physics and systems engineering
Experience with charged particle beams, electron or X ray detection, imaging systems, high vacuum or cryo temperature, or similar would be a strong plus
Prior experience working on diverse and broad problems where analysis of a situation or data requires an evaluation of variable factors. Able to act independently by using judgment and thinking within broadly defined policies and objectives within the area of expertise/knowledge under general direction
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Ability to collaborate with senior management customers, and peers between functional areas and other company divisions or business groups. Excellent skills in persuading, inspiring, developing and motivating stakeholders are required
Ability to travel domestically and internationally
