Position Title: New Iberia Research Center: Lead Biomedical Laboratory Scientist

This NIH grant-funded position reports to Dr. FrancoisVillinger, Principal Investigator (P.I.).
An AAALAC international accredited facility, NIRC housesapproximately 7,500 nonhuman primates (including Great Apes, Old World and NewWorld species). Our mission is to provide resources and support for the conductof basic and applied research aimed at the solution of human health andsocietal problems.
The New Iberia Research Center is a $40 million biomedicalresearch center which provides resources for the conduct of basic and appliedresearch requiring the use of non-human primates aimed at the solution of humanhealth and societal problems. Inaddition, the Center serves as a resource to the biomedical community enablinginvestigators from other institutions to conduct all or part of their research. The NIRC is a Center of the University ofLouisiana at Lafayette.
The successful applicant will support programs on active immunization of nonhuman primates to prevent mucosal virus acquisition as well as a whole body to single cell evaluation of viral reservoirs in the context of simian immunodeficiency virus infection of nonhuman primates. The candidate will assist the research team by performing assays to measure immunological and virological parameters. He/She will also run some of the imaging work using a PET/CT scanner to adequately collect data and assist in tissue collections and peripheral blood mononuclear cell preparation. Other responsibilities include maintaining laboratory equipment, ordering supplies and maintain databases for storage of samples collected from experimental animals and laboratory-generated reagents.
A Masters of Sciencedegree or a Bachelors plus 2 years of laboratory experience in biology,immunology, molecular biology, microbiology, or a related field (or equivalent).Previous experience in biomedical research with significant bench workexperience, including excellent tissue culture skills, molecular assay and theoperation of PET/CT equipment under biosafety level 2+ conditions and work withnonhuman primate models will be a plus. Excellentcommunication skills are required.
