Job Summary

This position serves as Medical Director and Laboratory Director for Student Health Services. This position is responsible for the supervision of all clinical services, including Nursing, Laboratory and all medical services, and will provide primary health care services for students as a physician. Direct reports include the Laboratory Supervisor, the Assistant Administrator/Nurse Practitioner, one full-time physician, and one part-time physician.

Minimum Qualifications

Completion of medical school with successful completion of an Internal Medicine or Family Practice Residency program. Licensed to practice or eligible for licensure as a physician in the state of Virginia. Board certified in Internal Medicine or Family Practice. Current DEA license. Satisfactory Review by the National Practitioner Databank. Some experience as a primary care physician in an outpatient setting. Knowledge of the role of the primary care physician in an ambulatory care setting. Strong interpersonal skills as well as excellent verbal/written skills. Evidence of professional leadership role in a health care setting or the equivalent in leadership skills. Ability to interact positively with a diverse student population. Ability to interact positively with nurse practitioners and/or physician assistants.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience as a medical director or physician in a college health setting. Experience with sports medicine and womens health. Current laboratory director for a moderately complex laboratory or completion of a 20 hour CME course in Laboratory practice encompassing pre-analytic, analytic and post-analytic testing. Current CPR certification. Meet CMS requirements for laboratory director, knowledge regarding accreditation requirements in an ambulatory care setting.
