**Overview** High Pressure Collaborative Access Team (HPCAT) at the Advanced Photon Source seeks applications for a postdoctoral position in the field of high-pressure research, with focus on developing X-ray science programs using Paris-Edinburgh (PE) Press. HPCAT currently hosts a vigorous PE program, that includes XRD, radiography, ultrasonic, density, and viscosity measurements - all capabilities routinely available for measurements up to ~7 GPa and 2000 K. Recent developments based on double stage compression have extended compression range to >100 GPa as well. Focus of the postdoc position is on experimental research and further development of capabilities with PE press. The postdoc will help develop new capabilities on PE press through scientific measurements on metals, such as zirconium and titanium, but other materials will also be explored. Main thrust will be on setting up thermal and electrical conductivity measurements with PE, which will allow for: understanding structural phase transformations using combined electrical-resistance and XRD; information of thermal conductivity across multiple phase transitions; effect of pressure on thermoelectric properties of materials; etc. The postdoc will also work towards understanding the link between macroscopic transport properties with the existing XRD, radiography, ultrasonic, and density measurements. The developed capabilities will ultimately provide an enhanced PE platform that will be introduced following the upcoming APS upgrade (APS-U). The postdoc will also have the opportunity to interact with HPCAT staff on various aspects of synchrotron x-ray work as well as interacting with a diverse and productive user base. Applicants should submit 2 page (max) description of research interests - particular aspects of working with PE press and X-ray measurements should be clearly identified. Please attach with your CV or Cover Letter. Postdoc position is expected to start as soon as appropriate candidate is identified. Application review is expected to begin Jan. 26, 2022 and only completed applications will be considered.
