Position Summary

We are looking for a highly organized and enthusiastic nurse professional to carry out research duties for NIH and foundation-funded studies in the Center for Behavioral Cardiovascular Health. The Research Nurse will be responsible for the clinical and research duties related to a new laboratory-based research protocol focused on examining the health benefits of breaking up periods of prolonged sedentary behavior.

Candidates should anticipate the need for flexible work hours to attain recruitment goals and complete the 9-hour study visits successfully. Candidates may expect work hours to be scheduled between 7:00 am and 7:30 pm and occasionally on weekends, varying from week-to-week depending upon study visit and recruitment needs. Candidates should be comfortable in a team-oriented, collaborative work culture with frequent bilingual interactions in both English and Spanish with study participants, collaborating investigators, and clinic personnel.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate the collection and evaluation of study data to ensure that project goals are met
  • Assist in the recruitment, enrollment and informed consent of study participants
  • Administer standardized questionnaires
  • Organize and maintain study related records (paper and electronic)
  • Perform data entry and cleaning
  • Conduct all phlebotomy procedures during study protocol laboratory visits, including but not limited to IV insertion for blood specimen collection
  • Provide instruction on study procedures such as use of various study devices, including blood pressure monitors, glucose monitors, and accelerometer devices
  • Collaborate with members of the research team in the creation and maintenance of manuals of operation, research data collection and entry, database management and IRB regulatory submissions
  • Coordinate with institutional groups including but not limited to blood specimen processing labs
  • Assist in the maintenance of research supply inventory, including phlebotomy supplies, study food, PayCard inventory and study devices
  • Establish and maintain relationships with institutional groups including but not limited to the blood specimen processing lab and the bionutrition unit
  • Serve as a liaison with the Centers Data Team and working closely with project managers and investigators in ensuring clinical study data completeness and accuracy, as it relates to clinical research study aims and outcomes
  • Assume a major role in the preparation and utilization of clinical data for analysis
  • Participate in frequent patient and research participant interactions in both English and Spanish
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned/requested

Minimum Qualifications
  • Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus three years of related experience.
  • Current New York State RN license required.
  • Must speak Spanish fluently.
  • Phlebotomy skills and experience performing blood draws.
  • IV Insertion Certification.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master of Science in Nursing
  • ACLS certification

Other Requirements
  • Experience in clinical research.
  • Project leadership experience.
  • BCLS certification.
  • Well-organized, self-starter needed. Must be able to establish priorities and a course of action for managing several activities at once while observing deadlines.
  • Excellent phone skills and interpersonal communication required.
  • Strong commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Must successfully complete systems training requirements.
  • Participation in medical surveillance program.
