+ Manages the operational planning, compliance, and management of the activities associated with the Lab2Launch area of the Health Sciences Research Building II (HSRB II).

+ Provides programmatic support of Biolocity, a joint Emory/Georgia Tech Program that provides a combination of funding, project management, and consulting resources to early-stage technologies that address an unmet clinical need, have a compelling commercial potential and the ability to impact patient health.

+ Leads the partnership with School of Medicine (SOM) Core leaders and SF&A on coordination of facility and core needs to support Lab2Launch or Biolocity programs.

+ This position is an Emory University School of Medicine (SOM) role in collaboration with Woodruff Health Sciences (WHSC) and with a matrixed reporting structure to the Director of Biolocity.

+ Lab2Launch In partnership with campus-wide innovation initiatives and leaders, provides leadership, operational planning, compliance, management and supervision of activities associated with the Lab2Launch area.

+ Negotiates use agreements and evaluations with faculty-based start-ups.

+ Provides SOM/Biolocity/Woodruff Health Science Center (WHSC) leadership with regular updates on each faculty-based start-up and an annual review against milestones for startups.

+ Serves as a navigator and advocate for faculty-based start-ups to connect and arrange the delivery of services, including but not limited to, ensuring the understanding of accountability and expectations of milestones, providing mentorship with knowledge of successes from experience in innovation/new company partnerships, provides timely resolution for all needs, and advocates and build relationships with new and existing users (internal and external).

+ Develops and maintains SOP and operating agreements in coordination with SOM leadership and guidance.

+ Manages Lab2Launch tenant relations, business development, and day-to-day activities; recruits, evaluates and sets up agreements with faculty-based startups.

+ In coordination with facilities staff, ensures compliance with all local, state, and federal laws and regulations as well as Emory University policies and procedures regarding environmental health and safety (EHSO) and, where appropriate, policies and procedures related to animal care, use of human subjects, embryonic stem cells, other biomaterials, etc.

+ Ensures proper documentation of insurance and other appropriate terms to ensure that the University is adequately protected from possible liability.

+ Coordinates operational activities and procurement of necessary resources with institutional partners including, but not limited to, space and facilities, Emory Integrated Core Facilities, communications, and event management departments/units.

+ BIOLOCITY Provides hands-on project management of multiple projects, providing the focused oversight that awarded teams require to be successful, including bi-weekly meetings with awardees.

+ Carries out extensive market assessments to help evaluate the competitiveness of applicant projects.

+ Participates in meetings and presentations in entrepreneurial education and regular program operation meetings.

+ Develops relationships with service providers (contract research organizations, legal, etc.) to provide timely advice for Biolocity funded teams.

+ Performs related responsibilities as required.


+ Advanced degree(s) in a scientific field (preferably life sciences), business or law and five years of venture/accelerator and entrepreneurial business development experience, including marketing, communications, and management.


+ Experience in the technology industry, research, and/or academic medicine environments and experience with research lab environment compliance and oversight.

+ Excellent technical writing skills and knowledge of appropriate language for use agreements.

+ Excellent oral and written communication skills.

+ Ability to navigate complex situations with multiple stakeholders.

+ Experience working with leadership and researchers of diverse backgrounds and experiences.

+ Ability to effectively lead a team.

NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs. Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines of department of work. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
