The Organic Chemist will work closely with the Senior Chemist at Arista Biologicals, a Fortis Life Sciences company. In this role you will be responsible for designing and creating novel bioconjugates for use in the development of new anti-hapten antibody products and as critical components of high value immunoassays. You will balance multiple projects with different priorities and internal customers and will report results to all stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in organic chemistry, excellent analytical skills, and will be highly self-motivated. As a member of a dynamic, rapidly growing company, you will work seamlessly across departments and across sites to deliver on key business objectives.

What You'll Do
  • Develop safe, efficient, & reproducible synthetic strategies for diverse small molecule haptens.
  • Identify unique chemical epitopes and optimal presentation formats.
  • Identify and source all input materials.
  • Perform multi-step organic synthesis and ensure appropriate analytical steps are in place.
  • Perform development and production scale conjugation of haptens at different loading densities to carrier proteins such as KLH and BSA.
  • Collaborate with R&D team to support successful new product development including leveraging your chemistry expertise to suggest possible new product or service categories.
  • Ensure timely delivery of both catalog products and R&D process inputs.
  • Maintain accurate, detailed, and reliable laboratory records.
  • Follow SOPs and contribute to drafting of new SOPs and updating existing SOPs.
  • Present project plans, updates, and results to stakeholders.
  • Perform routine maintenance and prioritize scheduled service on lab instruments used for performance and analytical testing.
  • Develop and propose improved processes to fulfill the above functions.

Who You Are & What You Bring

Education / Background
  • MS or PhD Organic Chemistry preferred
  • 2+ years of industry experience, less with advanced degrees
  • Equivalent combination of education and work experience

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and develop chemistry
  • Mature understanding of how to work safely and effectively with a wide range of chemical and biological samples, including sample handling, reactivity, purification and storage.
  • Experience with HPLC, MS, NMR, inert atmosphere chambers, and pipetting.
  • Experience with carbocyclic and heterocyclic chemisty, and with bio-conjugation highly desired.
