Position Overview

As the Scientific Leader, Clinical Development for Immunology you will provide clinical immunology and biomarker leadership and expertise for, but not limited to,
  • Novel therapeutic agents in the ViiV Healthcare (VH) clinical development portfolio
  • Partnership with Medical Affairs and Commercial line functions
  • Liaising with drug discovery and other matrix research areas
  • Initiation and project management of collaborative partnerships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Initiation, implementation/execution and delivery of results from assays and experiments from internal and external stakeholders
  • Liaising with our cure & remission and bioinformatic team


Job Responsibilities:
  • Immunology and biomarker leadership and support for R&D, Medical Sciences, Medical Affairs, and Commercial lines at global/regional/local levels
  • Immunology and biomarker function core representative of Medicine Development Teams
  • Design, implement and oversee immunology and biomarker plans of ViiV sponsored clinical studies in all phases of clinical development
  • Create, support, present medical and scientific educational and scientific engagement materials
  • Define and manage external partnership(s)
  • Face to face advisory role with Key External Experts
  • Lead interactions with diagnostic and algorithm partners to inform appropriate use of VH medicines.
  • Subject matter expert across the ViiV portfolio research/business development objectives.
  • Expert communication of VH data in presentations at scientific conferences, either local, regional, or international.
  • Exemplifies transparency and promotes quality of science.

Key Accountabilities:
  • Execution of R&D immunology and biomarker plan and related activities in accordance with business objectives.
  • Responsible for expanding our translational biomarker platform
  • Responsible for initiation, implementation through to execution and delivery of immunology and translational biomarker results from assays and experiments from internal and external stakeholders
  • Positive influence on scientific quality and strategic execution across Research & Development organization; strong alignment with Global Medical affairs and commercial strategy
  • Establish/maintain internal and external translational research collaborations supporting the ViiV portfolio and/or scientific interests
  • Serve as a biomarker liaison for our HIV cure & remission and bioinformatic team


Why you?

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:​
  • Life Science Degree
  • 5+ years of experience in drug discovery and clinical development; medical affairs and/or post-marketing support a bonus
  • Research history in Infectious Diseases; experience in HIV pathogenesis, treatment, and prevention research with credible external presence a bonus
  • Assay development experience at all stages from early development and validation to implementation and delivery
  • Cross-functional Project Management experience


Preferred qualifications

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:
  • PhD, MD, or MD PhD
  • Excellent leadership experience in a matrix environment
  • Understanding the clinical trial process from concept study idea to publication and Regulatory submissions
  • Effective communication and presentation skills
  • Good interpersonal relationship building/maintenance
  • Proven team working spirit from early development to implementation
  • Drug discovery and/or early clinical development experience
  • Profound knowledge of HIV immunology and virology including potential therapeutic interventions
  • Experience in immune-modulating therapies including monoclonal antibodies
  • Good understanding of B-cell biology
  • Proven ability in execution and delivery of assay results from work/assays carried out in house and with external contractors and academic research labs
  • Good understanding of host biomarker analysis, interpretation and presentation in conference proceedings/published manuscripts
  • Experience in immunological and biomarker assay development, evaluation and implementation
  • Experience in clinical assay development and validation
  • Knowledge in bioinformatic platform development including next generation sequencing
  • Good understanding of strategic program planning and execution
