The Trauma Research Manager for the Division of Trauma, Critical Care & Acute Care Surgery works with the Division Chief/Director of Research to be responsible for the management and oversight of all research activities within the Trauma Research Laboratory. Duties include, but are not limited to:
• Oversight of research personnel (approximately 20 research staff)
• Budgeting for all clinical trials and research grants and contracts
• Fiscal management (approximately $10.2 million in research funding) and fiscal authority
• Grant preparation
• Compliance and adherence to NIH, SPA, and other regulatory guidelines
• Acts as liaison with SPA, Clinical Trial sponsors, community partners for research, and other departments involved in collaborative research
• Helps to ensure research support is available to all division faculty participating in research
This position reports directly to the Division Manager with a dotted line to the Division Chief and Department of Surgery Research Administrator.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in related field plus 5 years of relevant experience
• Knowledge of research management, training, supervising, and mentoring staff
• Through knowledge of regulatory requirements, operations, compliance in a clinical research environment
• Exceptional interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal
• Ability to communicate effectively, making independent decisions, establishing guidelines, policies, procedures, and maintain confidentiality
• Demonstrates skill in providing problem-solving techniques and resolutions for human resource management
• Clear ability to manage multiple and frequently changing priorities
• Ability to build consensus; demonstrates collaborative management style; ability to work positively and constructively with a diverse group of faculty and staff
• Ability to establish and maintain professional business relationships
• Demonstrated effective contract negotiation skills
• Detail-oriented and highly organized with the ability to work on varied projects while managing day-to-day operations
• Consistent and predictable availability with excellent attendance
• Strong computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
Preferred Qualifications
• Masters degree or PhD
• Research and clinical management experience
• Experience with Lotus and/or Oracle
