Description
The Department of Philosophy at Smith College invites applications for a 3-year renewable, benefits eligible position at the rank of Core Lecturer in the Philosophy of Law and related fields to begin July 1, 2023. A core lecturer is a continuing, but non-tenure-track member of the faculty whose primary responsibility is teaching. The position includes access to research funds and a track to promotion to Senior Lecturer. The successful candidate will teach 5 courses per year, AOS: Philosophy of Law, AOC: Social and political philosophy, ethics, philosophy of language, or logic. Strong candidates will teach courses that enable students to understand and to think critically about the foundations of law and the roles of law in civil society broadly conceived. Cross-cultural philosophical interests are highly desirable. Ph.D. in Philosophy is required by the time of appointment. Candidates from groups underrepresented in Philosophy are encouraged to apply.
