Background

To assist in research (by carrying out data collection or analyses) to create knowledge through providing research support for projects and research groups

Summary of Role
  • Work within the 3D Multi-modal Project funded by the Ramsay Fund
  • Operate within area of specialism, i.e. Computer Vision and Machine Learning
  • Contribute to research outputs, e.g. publications
  • Part-time position (5 hours per week for 10 weeks)

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Collect research data: this may be through a variety of research methods, such as, video data collection from given cameras in specific scenarios, literature reviews, and scientific experimentation
  • Analyse research data as directed, by using video/audio processing software
  • Develop or adapt techniques, models and methods
  • Present research outputs, including drafting academic publications or parts thereof, for example at seminars and as posters
  • Provide guidance as required to support staff and any students who may be assisting with research
  • Deal with problems that may affect the achievement of research objectives and deadlines
  • Carry out administrative tasks related directly to the delivery of the research
  • Promotes equality and values diversity acting as a role model and fostering an inclusive working culture

Person Specification
  • Master Degree (including to be obtained) in Computer Science or equivalent in relevant subject area
  • Practical experience of applying the relevant skills and techniques
  • Good English communication skills
  • Ability to record videos with provided cameras (hand-hold and glasses-like cameras) in specified environment, e.g. campus, street, kitchen.
  • Ability or experience with processing video and audio data
  • Ability to analyse information and communicate effectively
  • Ability to access and organise resources successfully
  • Knowledge of the protected characteristics of the Equality Act 2010, and how to actively ensure in day to day activity in own area that those with protected characteristics are treated equally and fairly
