The role

The Department of Computer Science is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Cyber Security - specifically in systems security or software security - to join the Bristol Cyber Security Group. The group is part of the Academic Centre of Excellence on Cyber Security Research, heads an EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training, the Cyber Security Body of Knowledge (CyBOK), the National Research Centre on Privacy, Harm Reduction and Adversarial Influence Online and is currently recruiting its first cohort of students to an MSc Cyber Security (Infrastructure Security). It also leads projects in major national programmes: RISCS, RITICS, PETRAS and Discribe.

Candidates would have strong track record of research and teaching in one or more of: systems security or software security.

What will you be doing?

Research: You will be expected to carry out excellent research complementing that currently being pursued in the Department especially the Bristol Cyber Security Group, and to publish high quality publications in top venues. You will have the opportunity to apply for your own funding from government and /or industrial sources.

Teaching: You will be expected to take an active role in providing high quality and innovative teaching in the Department in the area of cyber security. This will include lecture courses, personal tutoring, problem classes, laboratories as well as supervising group and individual projects, at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Citizenship: You will be expected to contribute to the effective running of the Department, School and Faculty by undertaking academic leadership roles as specified by the Head of Department.

You should apply if
  • You are passionate about research into cyber security, including one or more of: systems security, software security;
  • You have a track record of teaching at university level and the ability to undertake teaching in cyber security covering a broad range of topics;
  • You have a proven ability to publish papers in top venues;
  • You have the potential to lead and grow an area of research in the department;
  • You understand how to implement inclusive approaches in your teaching/research/citizenship.
