The research groups of Visceral Surgery and Precision Medicine (Dr. Salvatore Piscuoglio), Translational Genitourinary Cancer Research (Dr. Clémentine Le Magnen) and Brain Tumor Immunotherapy (Prof. Gregor Hutter) are based at the Department of Biomedicine, Basel, Switzerland. Our groups are seeking a highly motivated Laboratory Technician in Molecular Biology/ Cell Biology (100%) to join our team of bioinformaticians, molecular biologists, pathologists and surgery fellows in the context of the Patient-specific Models of Cancer (PMC) Platform.

Your position

The candidate will have the opportunity to apply and optimize cutting-edge molecular methods, in particular those for the generation and drug treatment of 3D in vitro models that adequately recapitulate the tumor architecture and mimic the cell-to-cell interactions within the tissue microenvironment. This includes generation, maintenance and treatment of patient-derived tumor organoids. The project will be conducted in close collaboration among the research groups, opening possibilities for direct translational applications.

Main responsibilities include
  • Processing of patient derived samples according to pre-established guidelines (e.g. tissue dissociation, isolation of PBMCs/ TILs, endothelial cells, sample freezing and storage, nucleic acids and protein extraction, and co-culture generation), cell culture and lab maintenance.
  • Updating database for the processed biological samples
  • Performing drug screening
  • General support functions and maintenance of the lab within the scope of this project


Your profile

You have a "Laborant/in" degree or a Bachelor/Master degree in Biology or related topics. We expect excellent technical expertise in molecular/ cell biology techniques including organoid generation and maintenance
  • Hands-on experience handling patient samples processing.
  • Hands-on work experience with cell culture technique is a must.
  • Experience in primary cell culture and 3D cultures and drug treatment is highly desirable.
  • Once trained, applicant must be able to work independently.
  • Organized and detail-orientated, able to maintain accurate documentation of experiments and samples information.
  • Collaborative, able to work effectively in a team.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Fluent in English is a must and knowledge of German is desirable.
