The Shirley Ryan AbilityLab and Robert and Ann Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago are jointly recruiting for a postdoctoral fellow to work on projects focused on the use of wearable devices and body-worn sensors to measure physiological and health-related outcomes of pediatric patients undergoing surgery. We are looking for a Post-Doctoral Fellow to join our group who will merge relevant clinical knowledge with state-of-the-art signal processing and machine learning methods to develop detailed models of patient recovery. This fellow will work with commercial or research-grade sensor data collected from hundreds of patients to investigate the clinical utility of this approach.

The Post-Doctoral Fellow, Research will assist in the design, development, execution, and implementation of scientific research and/or development in collaboration with a research team.

Principal Responsibilities

The Post Doctoral Fellow:

  1. Designs, executes, and interprets research pertaining to wearable sensor technology, including data collection, processing, and algorithm development to extract meaningful information from body-worn sensors.
  2. Participates in weekly lab meetings, journal clubs, and seminars.
  3. Investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and theories to potential inventions and products.
  4. Maintains substantial knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories.
  5. Assists with development of collaborative projects within and outside the Lurie Children's/Shirley Ryan AbilityLab and test ideas for new projects development.
  6. Applies for fellowships and grants for external lab funding and career development.
  7. Participates weekly lab meetings, journal clubs and seminars.
  8. Builds and maintains a well-organized and accountable journal of own laboratory protocols, experiments, results and analyses.
  9. Develops, submits and publishes results of research projects scientific journals and presents data to public conferences/seminars when needed.
  10. Performs all other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab.
