As a recognized leader in machine learning applications to heliophysics and space science research, we are helping to reveal the secrets of our solar system and the universe.
Objectives of this Role:
- Use machine learning to enable effective and actionable space weather forecast tools.
- Use machine learning to create homogeneous databases spanning multiple instruments with different capabilities.
- Use machine learning to identify, label, and analyze recurrent patterns in heliophysical, geophysical, and astrophysical data.
- Help create inclusive and nurturing team dynamics in which members with different fields of expertise communicate and collaborate effectively.
- Help ideate, plan, write, submit, and execute research grant proposals to public and/or private funding programs.
Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:
- Participate in regular meetings for planning, ideation, and execution of research objectives.
- Development of application of machine learning tools to accomplish scientific goals using Python.
- Maintenance and documentation of open-source repositories.
- Writing and submission of grant proposals and scientific articles.
- Pair-coding, and other joint exercises aimed to train others and/or acquire new expertise.
Requirements:
- Requires a PhD with a 3.00 GPA in Heliophysics or Machine Learning or directly related
- 0-3 years: Must have experience using machine learning in either academic research or industry
- Must be proficient coding in python
- Experience working in interdisciplinary teams or a desire to work in teams
- Experience in software engineering and development of open-source tools is not required but should be able to learn
