Objectives of this Role:

  • Conduct scientific research into a wide range of topics related to understanding processes important for the formation of planetary systems.
  • Assist with research problems by starting with a literature search and dimensional analysis of the various competing physical processes, and analytical descriptions of expected system behavior.
  • Study and test possible solutions by designing, setting up, running, and analyzing planet formation computer simulations.
  • Provide specific alterations for a given task or problem. Write computer code, compiling the software package, and benchmarking its performance.
  • Present completed projects at conferences and then publish work in academic journals.
  • Write and win proposals for self-guided research contracts.


Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:

Requirements:

  • Must have a Ph.D. Degree, or foreign equivalent, in Planetary Science, Orbital Mechanics, Physics, Geophysics, Geology, or related
  • Must have 3 years of post-baccalaureate experience or research in Orbital Mechanics
  • The 3 years of experience or research must include experience w/Celestial Mechanics, Computational Planetary Science, Planet migration & Collisional processes; utilizing N-body codes commonly used in planet formation & evolution models, specifically those known as Swift & SyMBA
  • The Senior Research Scientist must also have a publication record in the dynamics of small bodies in the Solar System, planet formation, or planet migration; published journal papers and presented work at scientific conferences.

Salary Range: $90,000.00 - $100,000.00
