About the Role:

We are looking for a Senior Journals Publishing Manager to join our Veterinary Sciences team. You'll have the opportunity to work with some of the world's leading societies, and manage high impact Wiley-owned journals.

This role will be responsible for the editorial management, strategic development, and financial performance of a portfolio. It's a collaborative role within a friendly and supportive global subject team, comprised of editorial, production, marketing, technology, and finance colleagues. This role will work with the Associate Editorial Director and Associate Publisher to strategically grow our portfolio, including improving the publishing experience for authors, implementing open science initiatives, hiring editors, diversifying our editorial teams, improving profitability, and implementing new workflows and initiatives. How you will make an impact:
  • Provide best-in-class service to our partners and ensure Wiley meets all contractual commitments, improves profitability, and maintains an excellent reputation within relevant subject communities.
  • Cultivate effective relationships to ensure the efficient day-to-day running of journals, in close cooperation with relevant internal staff, e.g. journal publishing assistants, marketing, production, finance.
  • Use data analysis to provide market insight and sound advice to ensure the journals remain competitive and financially sustainable.
  • Contribute towards team and company targets to protect and grow revenues and maintain/improve title profitability to ensure the long-term financial health of the program.
  • Drive content development discussions using analytics and evidence through regular communications, hosting strategy meetings, and presenting at editorial board meetings.
  • Meet portfolio-related objectives with regard to market share, editorial succession, cost per article, operations, and growth.
  • Support academic editors and society partners and ensure that the high quality of content is maintained.
  • Ensure that our journals deliver an excellent service to authors.

What we are looking for:
  • Education to degree level or equivalent
  • Strong data analytics, time management, negotiation and presentation skills
  • Experience in explaining and using financial modelling to reflect changes in the publishing industry and to budget accordingly
  • Experience in research publishing, strategic journal development, and a good knowledge of the different aspects of journal publishing industry
  • Experience in Account Management, working with cross-functional groups and communicating with various internal teams
  • Experience leading and facilitating meetings
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to work with people from other disciplines and backgrounds and to communicate effectively through a wide range of technologies
