Our mission is to unlock human potential. We welcome you for who you are, the background you bring, and we embrace individuals who get excited about learning. Bring your experiences, your perspectives, and your passion; it's in our differences that we empower the way the world learns.

At Wiley, we welcome you for who you are, the background you bring, and embrace individuals who get excited about learning whether online or by book. Learning is for everyone, and so is our workplace. Bring your experiences, your perspectives, and your passion. It's in our differences that we empower the way the world learns.

About the Role:

Wiley's Materials Science & Physics editorial team, which manages leading titles such as Advanced Materials, Advanced Science, Small, Annalen der Physik, and the Macromolecular journals, is looking for an editor with experience in scientific publishing or an outstanding energy research expert to become the Editor in Chief of its open access journal Advanced Energy & Sustainability Research (https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/journal/26999412).

The position is based in Oxford (UK), though working from Hoboken (US), Weinheim (DE), or another Wiley office could be an option for the right candidate; remote options may also be discussed.

How you will make an impact:

You will...
  • Develop this young open access journal into a leading journal in the field and a strong member of the Advanced brand
  • Be an active member of a global editorial team, collaborating with other editorial colleagues on a daily basis
  • Be responsible for editorial decisions on individual manuscripts from submission to acceptance (particularly for this journal but also for other titles of the portfolio), including the organization of the peer-review and revision processes
  • Be involved in the strategic development of the Materials Science & Physics titles
  • Engage with our authors, reviewers, and editorial advisory board members (virtually and in person) - researchers from all over the world
  • Contribute to (cross-functional/departmental) workflow optimization or portfolio expansion projects (new journal launches, etc.)

What we look for:
  • Hold a PhD in a field relevant to the scope of the journal; postdoctoral research experience is beneficial but not necessary
  • Have (editorial) experience in scientific publishing, with a deep understanding of the peer review process, and are prepared to broaden that knowledge by working across a spectrum of research areas
  • Have a passion for open science and science communication; publishing/scientific news writing experience would be advantageous
  • Are self-motivated, diplomatic, and flexible, and have outstanding organizational, time management, and communications skills, as well as excellent command of the English language (written and verbal)
  • Can collaborate efficiently and effectively in teams spanning multiple office locations globally
  • Are keen to travel and represent the publisher and the individual journals to the research community at international conferences and at university/institute visits
  • Have an interest in data analysis; experience with manuscript tracking systems would be advantageous
