Junior Lecturer Positions (Fixed-Term Full-Time Appointments)

Department of Civil Engineering in the specialisation Port and Coastal Engineering from both an environmental and infrastructure design perspective.
Department of Industrial Engineering in any of the following specialisations: Operations Research, Data Science, Machine Learning, Operations Management,
Department of Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering in the specialisation fields of Thermofluids, Mechanics, Design, Mechatronics, or Biomedical Engineering.
Department of Process Engineering in any of the Department's established research focus areas, namely Bioresource Engineering, Extractive Metallurgy, Machine
This is a five-year contract appointment with the possibility to extend the appointment after five years. It is expected of the candidates who are appointed
and who do not have a PhD qualification, to enrol for PhD studies within six months after appointment and to then obtain the degree in a reasonable amount
of time, but not more than five years.
Position: Five -year Fixed-Term Position as Full-Time Junior Lecturer
Teaching and administration of general undergraduate engineering modules;
Supervision of final year engineering projects;
Performing basic and/or applied research focused in research areas relevant to the Department where the appointment will be made;
Collaborating with existing research groups within the Department;
Performing support, administrative and representative roles in the Department.
BEng or BScEng four-year bachelor's degree in Engineering, recognised by the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) to qualify for registration as a
Appropriate master's degree (typically an MEng or MScEng) from, or enrolled for a PhD in Engineering at, a recognised academic university;
A strong academic track-record;
The ability and desire to complete a PhD in Engineering on a part-time basis within the five-year contract period;
The ability to communicate clearly in at least English and to teach courses and modules as part of the typical undergraduate engineering programme;
Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in teams;
Appropriate industry experience;
An NRF rating as a young researcher;
Registration as a Professional Engineer;
Previous tertiary teaching experience, both at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level;
Ability to function in a multidisciplinary environment;
