Research Assistant 2-B/H to assist and support scientific investigation to study neuroimmunology as directed in the Department of Neurology. Candidate will conduct assigned experiments and assist the research team as needed. The position will be focused on lab animal maintenance and routine procedures on lab animals. The work will include the ability to handle mice, performs a variety of molecular, cellular, and in vivo techniques involving disease models of neuroimmunology; perform procedures including PCR reactions, gel electrophoresis, assays, cell cultures and Western analysis; sort and process animal tissue and blood samples; create and maintain research records and assists with analysis of research results; assists in evaluating validity of data obtained from experimental procedures; summarizes data for inclusion in grant proposals and manuscripts; prepares research progress reports; assists principal investigator with the preparation of publications, manuscripts, articles, posters, and abstracts; conducts library research on requested topics through researching current literature; oversees and maintains accurate records of laboratory activities; assists with training of junior research staff, and undergraduate and graduate students in research methods and equipment operation; sets up and operates laboratory equipment; monitors research supply, including specimens, inventory and initiates procurement requests as needed.

60%: Assists and supports scientific investigation to study neuroimmunology-based projects as directed; independently conducts assigned experiments; performs majority of lab animal maintenance and routine procedures on lab animals; performs a variety of molecular, cellular, and biological research techniques and procedures including PCR reactions, gel electrophoresis, assays, cell cultures and Western analysis; sorts and processes tissue and blood samples; tests and evaluates current procedures and provides feedback to research team; maintains and oversees animal breeding colonies and/or transgenic mouse colonies; assists with care of lab animals; oversees and maintains accurate records of laboratory activities.

30%: Records, consolidates and assists with analysis of research results; assists in evaluating validity of data obtained from experimental procedures; summarizes data for inclusion in grant proposals, manuscripts and professional presentations; prepares research progress reports; assists principal investigator with the preparation of publications, manuscripts, articles, posters, and abstracts; conducts library research on requested topics through researching current literature.

10%: Assists with training of junior research staff, and undergraduate and graduate students in research methods and equipment operation; sets up and operates laboratory equipment; monitors research supply, including specimens, inventory and initiates procurement requests as needed; other duties as assigned.
