Our client believes that the global food system can sustain consumers, rural communities, and the environment with a sufficient understanding of climate demands. They are utilising the inherent strength of plants to increase the flexibility and resilience of agriculture through a deeper understanding of plant and microbial biology. To improve how we farm and the food we eat, their work focuses on creating nutrient efficiency goods and updating plant breeding.

Our client is seeking a Research Scientist to test novel theories and scour the boundaries of knowledge for our pipelines on nutrient use efficiency and carbon sequestration. In order to validate mode of action hypotheses and choose the best concepts for field-testing, the ideal applicant will plan and carry out tests. This position calls for initiative, excellent project management abilities, and scientific imagination. We're seeking for individuals who enjoy working both on their own and in a group.

Responsibilities

* Participate in the planning and evaluation of microbiome experiments (in a controlled environment or in the field) with bioinformaticians and plant biologists
* Use statistical analysis software to analyse datasets and present results to a variety of audiences
* Mentor and train more junior researchers (possibly including direct line management responsibilities depending on the situation)

Requirements

* A PhD or equivalent experience in microbiology, biochemistry, plant biology, chemistry, or related fields
* Documented accomplishment in the development and implementation of screening tools for the identification of plant composition regulators, small molecules for microbiome regulation or nutrient utilisation.
* Strong aptitude in experimental design, hypothesis-driven problem solving, and good data analysis
* Understanding of microbial ecology and relevant processes (e.g., quorum sensing, plant-microbe symbiosis)
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects and tasks
