We are seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic and skilled biologist to join our group within the Genomic Sciences department at our US Research Hub. The mission of our group is to unlock the genetic clues underlying human disease, thereby delivering new and better medicines for individuals with serious and greatest unmet medical need. To this end, we leverage the power of CRISPR and other gene editing technologies in high-throughput screening approaches, applied in in vitro and in vivo preclinical models, to discover and validate novel disease targets or genetic variants, elucidate genetic interactions, understand mechanisms of drug action and resistance, and identify potential combination therapies. Together with the ability to draw on genotypic and phenotypic databases from our world-leading partnerships with the UK BioBank and 23andMe, and to interrogate the genome through internal and collaborative efforts with the Broad Institute, Altius Institute, Open Targets, and the Laboratory of Genomics Research (LGR) with the Nobel Prize laureate Jennifer Doudna at the University of California, we aim to redefine how the industry approaches drug discovery.

Working in this multi-faceted, dynamic, and cutting-edge scientific environment, this laboratory-based role will give YOU the opportunity to:
  • apply molecular and cell biology expertise in support of functional genomic screens
  • build understanding of the early drug discovery process, including practical experience in target identification and validation
  • develop genome editing and screening skills, particularly with tumor, primary and immune cell types
  • work with key partners in areas of complex cellular model development, computational biology, omics technologies, and automation
  • interface collaboratively in local and global matrix-team settings
  • mature public speaking skills through presentation of experimental methods and findings

Key Responsibilities
  • laboratory-based role
  • support early drug discovery activities with emphases in assay development, functional genomics screening (including target identification and validation), and technology development
  • design and execute cell-based experiments with independence
  • maintain excellent experimental records according to GSK compliance
  • communicate experimental findings effectively, in written and verbal formats
  • build productive collaborations with GSK scientific partners, locally and globally

Why You?

Required Qualifications
  • PhD in cell biology, molecular biology or related life sciences field
  • Publications in peer reviewed journals
  • Two or more years of hands-on experience in molecular and cellular techniques (e.g., molecular cloning, western blotting, flow cytometry, cell culture)

Preferred Qualifications
  • Hands-on experience with genome editing or functional genomics screening
  • Background in immunology or immuno-oncology
  • Hands-on experience with primary cell culture and in vivo assays, desirable
  • Familiarity with genetic, proteomic, imaging, and/or other ‘omics technologies
  • Self-motivated with an insatiable appetite for learning
  • Embodies a positive-mindset and team mentality
  • Quick learner who is driven to deliver impact
