ASSOCIATE SCIENTIST in our LARGE MOLECULE BIOANALYTICS/IN VITRO LABORATORY

General Summary

This position is responsible for designing, validating, and performing a broad range of advanced tests and procedures using standard scientific techniques and methods; and recording, analyzing and reporting results. The Associate Scientist will apply advanced scientific knowledge, laboratory methods, and techniques to resolve complex problems. This position will support project work led by senior level staff and may provide guidance to more junior scientists.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Responsible for micro-pipetting with a high degree of accuracy for running ELISA's.
  • Develops assays; completes study designs for immunological in vitro studies.
  • Perform experimental procedures under minimal supervision.
  • Collects and analyzes data for review by management, utilizing sophisticated spreadsheets and statistical analysis software.
  • Provides resolutions to a diverse range of problems, and resolves problems requiring the application of standard procedures and techniques.
  • Conducts experimental procedures following Standard Operating Procedures, Good Laboratory Practices and study protocols.
  • Participates in all required GLP training.
  • Exercises judgment in conducting experimental procedures, recognizing deviations from expected results and postulating sources of deviations.
  • Assists with preparation of proposals, grants, and reports.
  • Assists with training of technicians.
  • Performs all work tasks following laboratory safety requirements.
  • Observes appropriate safety and study requirements by reading, understanding and following Standard Operating Procedures, Good Laboratory Practices requirements, and study protocols.
  • Performs other duties as required by their supervisor.

Requirements/Minimum Qualifications
  • BS in relevant discipline and five years of related experience or MS in a relevant discipline and one year of related experience.
  • Proficient in assay development and validation methodologies.
  • Ability to work in a Biosafety Lab Level 3 environment.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills including correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Detail oriented; possess good planning and organizational skills; inquisitive; takes direction well.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Windows, Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Strong organization skills and capable of multi-tasking.
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.

This position may require the ability to meet all entry requirements, including medical and vaccination requirements for work in both an ABSL-2 and ABSL-3 laboratory environment. Immunizations are required for this position and are determined by the study/agent. Some examples include Tetanus, Hepatitis B, Smallpox, Polio, and Influenza.

Work Environment & Conditions

This position is in a laboratory environment and required the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) including (but not limited to):
  • Eye protection (Safety glasses and/or full face shield)
  • Respirator (varies based on tasks and barrier requirements)
  • Tyvek/scrub suits
  • Nitrile (or equivalent) gloves (varies based on tasks)
  • Hearing protection (varies based on tasks)

Physical Demands
  • Ability to perform work utilizing a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time without being able to leave the work area.
  • As related to laboratory work (as applicable):
    • Ability to stand for extended periods of time without being able to leave the work area.
    • Ability to climb ladders and stairs in performing the work.
    • Ability to walk for reasonable distances in performing the work.
